The DIY Flooring Tool List

The do-it-yourself list of flooring installation tools is practical, but one tool that is sometimes overlooked is a wood moisture meter. No successful do-it-yourself flooring project is really complete without the sound measurement and management of the moisture content (MC) of wood.

Different installation methods also may require extra tools such as glue applicators, staple guns or plank jacks. Check with Flooring.org’s customer service to determine the installation method that is recommended for your flooring.
What does a moisture meter have to do with installing wood flooring by yourself? Plenty. In order to ensure that the MC of wood equilibrates, or stabilizes, for the long haul, installers must let newly-arrived wood flooring MC levels balance with the relative humidity (RH) and temperature of its ambient environment, reaching a state called its equilibrium moisture content (EMC). Because ambient conditions can change from the manufacturer’s production facilities to the sales floor to home conditions, it is practically a guaranteed certainty that the flooring needs time to reach this moisture balance. In addition, it’s also a guaranteed risk to install the wood flooring before it has reached its EMC. We recommend a minimum of three weeks for the EMC of your wood flooring to balance and stabilized correctly.

Hardwood Flooring Adhesive You Should Buy

the hardwood floor adhesive you should buyThe type of adhesive you will use to install your hardwood flooring will depend on the installation method you plan to use. Some choose to install flooring over a plywood subfloor while others may choose to install directly over concrete if they are on a concrete slab foundation. Most professionals will advise against gluing solid hardwood, as the preferred method of installation is to nail it down.

When purchasing your hardwood flooring, it makes sense to ask the supplier if there is a specific type of adhesive you should use when installing and to purchase it at the same time. Some manufacturers will suggest only using the adhesive they recommend in order to not void any warranties that may be associated with the flooring. Other manufacturers may not have a specific brand that they recommend, but they will recommend a specific type of glue.

It is important not to skimp on the adhesive because of its cost, as it may result in problems with your floor’s installation. While the problems might not occur right away, they will likely occur later on.

Why Wood Floor Vs Tile or Carpet

Hardwood Flooring vs CarpetHardwood Flooring is a product of nature, and a wood floor is not really made by man, it is merely altered by man. Isn’t it a fact that all the great artists have, in one way or another, reverted to nature to get the best inspiration to create the famous masterpieces that we know today? Now why do you think they would do that? It’s quite simple actually. Nothing can beat nature’s beauty, or even nature’s toughness and durability for that matter.

Why choose hardwood floor over tile or carpet?

The natural beauty of wood alone should make anyone want to have wood floors in their home or office.

Add to this beauty that hardwood floors are also durable, eco-friendly (green, renewable), cozy, and very forgiving to life’s accidents (unlike carpet which seems to stain if you look at it the wrong way) and hardwood really is the perfect flooring solution.

Ok so wood floors look great, but are they for me?

So you’re wondering if wood floors will work in your situation right? Because your home is built on a concrete slab? Or because you need new floors for your basement? Or because somebody told you that your home is not suitable for hardwood floors? It is true that certain applications may not be suitable for a traditional, solid hardwood floor. The good news is that there is a solution for nearly all applications! That solution is called Engineered Hardwood Flooring…
